In the Present

 

Today the people of St. Peter’s actively support a variety of social services in San Pedro. 

St. Peter’s is in the top 2% of congregations in the country contributing to Episcopal Relief and Development an international aid organization.

St. Peter’s now houses Mommy and Me classes (administered by Harbor Community Adult School); Music N Motion, offering music lessons to small children and their families; and Alanon and AA groups.

 

In the Past

 

St. Peter’s is the oldest church in San Pedro.  The original building, built in 1884,  was on 2^nd Street near the harbor.  With the first church building in town, the people of St. Peter’s chose to share their church home with congregations of other denominations until they could fund and erect their own buildings

St. Peter’s current building on 9^th Street was completed in 1954.  Members of this congregation founded Beacon House and have advocated for seamen and others in need in this community for decades.

Responding to the post-war baby boom, a church school was begun. in 1961.  St. Peter’s Episcopal Day School offered an environment of academic excellence and values formation to South Bay families for forty-four years.
